Ran superbly but developed short pause in trans between 2nd and 3rd at 150k kms. back. After 37000klm the turbo kept going into over boost and the car would go into limp mode. At 34,000klm had problems with the power steering. 2nd Transporter is now 3yo and is 132kw 7speed dsg. We are service related electrical / data contractors and are in the car upto 4.5hrs a day.Our last vw, a caddy, at 3 years old it had 180000 kms. Apart from those, van is So Far So good. Already at 78,000 kms, i've had my seat belt replaced due to ripping, automatic gear lever replaced due to internals breaking (not allowing the changing of gears) and multiple globe replacements. Our company just picked up a new T5 3 seater.This vehicle was purchased because of bad back issues caused by the vw caddy. Plenty of storage holes. Is it a fault and what else can go wrong when I taken it for its service they can't fine any problems but it only happens sometimes & sometimes it's more. Been setup as a full camper and is awesome for that reason, one of the only vans this size where you don’t have to get out of the van to access the rear, great in rainy weather. If you still insist on buying one - don't use your local mechanic or the VW dealer - find a quality independent VW specialist - wish I had done this sooner - but I'm getting rid of it anyway. A major issue was the clutch master cylinder has died at about 50K, had the run around till fixed (2nd attempt) There goodwill is to pay half which is a replacement engin.
